Automated Arc Melting System up to 36 Samples for Materials Research and In-situ Probe - AM-MSM-36

AM-MSM-36 is an automated arc melting system designed for melting 36 pellets per batch of metals and alloys via a revolving stage. The XYZ sample manipulator transfers samples between each location and flips sample for multiple melting cycles. In addition, the melting current, time, and distance are programmable for individual sample that allows different operation parameters for different kinds of materials. The transparent melting chamber allows for in-situ optical measurement and particle scattering during melting and solidification process. The system also comes with a visual camera to monitor the sample positions as safety interlocks.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Power

  • 120 VAC, 15 A, 50/60 Hz, 1.5 kVA for the controller and melting chamber
  • 208-240VAC, 40 A, 50/60 Hz, 7 kVA for the DC power supply.

General Process

  1. Place the pelletized sample on the sample stage and close the chamber.
  2. Set the melting parameters, including time, current, and the number of cycles.
  3. The XYZ stage transfers the sample to the arc-melting copper hearth, which then raises the sample to the top melting chamber.
  4. The system begins melting upon preset parameters.
  5. After melting, the hearth retracts to the original position
  6. Sample is flipped 180 degrees for remelting purposes.
  7. Repeat the steps 3 to 5.
  8. The x-y stage repositions the sample to its original spot and prepares for the next one.
  9. This procedure is repeated for each sample until all 36 samples are melted and examined.
  10. Finally, remove the sample tray and position the next one on the stage
